International
Ministry
The
Laurel church has a passion for peoples of the world which
can be seen in our church family as we work together to welcome
International friends to our congregation. We have internationals
from several countries visit our church each week, primarily
motivated by a desire to learn English and to have an American
friend. Some are interested in spiritual matters.
Our
ministry to internationals consists of a Friendship Class on
Wednesday nights, which meets mostly in our fellowship hall. The
most important role in this ministry is the study partner. The study
partner is a Christian male or female willing to spend one hour in
conversation and study with an international. Anyone can make
friends and answer the curious questions our guests ask. Friendships
develop which sometimes lead to a discussion of important spiritual
subjects focusing on God and Christ.
Other roles and
tasks for this ministry are in development. One is for our members
to serve as special guests and contacts to inform students about
specific topics of interest in their field. Other jobs include
developing, writing and ordering materials. We would also like to
begin following up with former students. To work in this ministry, a
member needs only to be willing to talk and listen and give his or
time to someone who is eager to make an American friend.
