Youth Ministry (LYF)
Our goal is to facilitate the collective discipleship of our students by moving them through a process of seeing, seeking, and serving God.
What's Going On?
See
We want our students to see that God is alive and at work in our group. We want our students to see that God loves them and has made a way for them to have a full and eternal life that can start today. We seek to put these things on display during our weekly Wednesday night program. Wednesday nights are high energy, tons of fun, and geared towards creating a community of joy. Wednesday nights are for everyone! Students who attend on Wednesday nights are encouraged to move to a deeper level of commitment to Jesus by joining a small group.
Seek
Our small groups meet on Sunday nights during the school year from 5-7pm. Small groups are the primary means by which our students seek God together. Students who earnestly participate in small groups will connect with God, friends, and mentors. In our small groups we prioritize responding to the what the bible is calling us to do in a given passage of scripture. Small groups are also a safe space for students to wrestle with difficult questions. Outside of small groups we also equip students to seek God by pairing newly baptized students with a mentor for their first year of being a Christian. During this time they learn about and practice various spiritual disciplines with their mentor. After the year is up, new Christians craft a “Rule” for how they will seek God and grow to become more like Jesus throughout their lives. Students who are actively seeking God in their life are encouraged to move to a deeper level of commitment by serving.
Serve
We have a variety of different ways for our most committed students to serve on a consistent basis. Students who are interested in serving within the youth ministry can join our student leadership team. Students can also serve within Laurel’s First Impressions, Children’s, JustLead, Technology, Local Missions, and Worship ministries. In addition to serving within the congregation students are also encouraged to serve in the community through service projects and our annual mission trip.
Sunday Mornings
On Sunday morning at 9:30 am our Middle School students meet in room 126 and our High School students meet in room 122 for Bible class. These rooms are located in the east wing of the building underneath the worship center. To find these rooms students should go down the stairs on the right side of the entrance to the worship center and head down the tiled-floor hallway. The purpose of our Sunday morning bible class is to make sure our students know God's word and how it applies to their lives. Students who enter our youth group in 6th grade will have been taught the entire bible by the time they graduate High School.
